As Dr. Campbell began collecting examples of religious objects found in resale shops in the Brazos Valley and surrounding counties, she was struck by the creativity and beauty of many of these objects, some professionally crafted and others being homemade by individuals as expressions of spiritual beliefs. This raised her intellectual curiosity and desire to explore and begin to identify the most common types of sacred objects and religious folk art found in local Texas thrift stores.
